Just farting in the wind…

Psst… wanna buy a bridge?

I had to read a company offering sent to me by my boss this morning; he wanted my opinion.

So, I look it over and I respond:

Just going on these documents, I would not do business with this company, based solely on the errors I’ve found.

I know I’m being very picky (can you say Anal Retentive?), but if a company presents a document to me that contains errors like these, it doesn’t give me an overall good impression (like nails on a chalk board), especially since these documents are marketing tools.

I’m probably the worst person to give marketing material to, because I will pick it to shreds. I’m completely anal retentive about other people’s writing, even though mine sucks.

I had to read through a proposal from another company, and I’m sorry to say, it was even worse. The horrible bit is that I like the guy, and I would like our companies to do business, but with a document like that…

Ain’t it strange

It’s weird how the mental picture you form for someone when you speak to them regularly on the phone drastically differs from the real thing.

Oh, just fucking great…

This is so typical really.

I find some nice backend software for running the site, and then the developers release a new version, and change the whole licensing scheme.

Unfortunately I opted for a non-opensource engine that was available for ‘free’ for personal use, which is what I’m doing. However, some of the things I’m doing in the background are now, according to their new license, deemed as ‘commercial use’, which is a very broad generality in their license since it covers some questionable (to my mind) items.

Well, this wouldn’t have really been a problem at their old prices, but I’m certainly not going to pay $299 ($199(!) intro price) for a commercial license for this software.

Stuff that, it’s easier to move to a proper GPL system. Fortunately I have already found a system that will do what I want, it’s just a pity that I came across it AFTER I had setup MT. Just as well it has a kind of crossgrade facility, otherwise I would be sitting here banging my head against my desk.

Way too long

Wow, this is my first post for May. Sad, considering it’s already halfway through. Oh well, no surprise really. It’s become a habit of mine: start something, go with it for awhile, then let it fade into obscurity.

It’s not like I don’t have anything to post, not true. I often come across things, or have thoughts that I think to myself, “I really should post an entry about this”, but I don’t end up doing it.

Say, has anyone got any spare roundtoits for me? I know as soon as I get aroundtoit, I’ll update the site. :-P
