The combination of Spam Karma and Referrer Karma seem to be doing the trick. I have not had my blog spammed for a couple of days now, woohoo!
Mind you, that was just about the only traffic I received, so maybe I should disable the damn things. Huh.
Actually, I don’t know what I’m complaining about. I set up this blog, not for publicity - who needs it? Not me - but to satisfy my own needs. At least I can say I’m doing something. It can’t all be work work work, now can it?
I’m thinking about getting myself a Canon Powershot G6. I’ve been drooling over this baby for a lil while now.
Even the wife approves! I’m set!
How this all started:
My wife had borrowed the camera (Nikon Coolpix 2000), and had taken a whole lot of pics at a school event. Anyway, all was fine until it came time to transfer the images. For some reason a picture every now and then ended up corrupted. For no reason that I could discern. Initially I thought it was the CF card that was poked, so I experimented by formatting the card, and filling it with random images. Nope, still had corrupted images.
Eventually I solved the problem by moving the transfer cable to a different USB port. I don’t know why all of a sudden it just started corrupting images, but there you have it. The mystery world of computers.
Anyway, while experimenting, there was this nasty thought that perhaps the camera itself was poked. It was just the excuse I needed to start looking for another camera, since I have been wanting to get something better for awhile now. I initially wanted to go for an entry level digital SLR, probably the Canon EOS300D, but the price for the body alone is prohibitive, and I would have to fork over another 1.5 - 2 grand for a lense. Yuk. No.
So the next best thing is the G6. It’s not an SLR, but it’s damn close. Plus it has all the features that would give a professional photographer a woody.
I’m no way near professional, but I like to have decent equipment. I’m just a poser.
Just installed Referrer Karma. Hopefully now my stats database won’t climb to over 12000 entries of utter crap.
Have I mentioned that I really hate spammers?
Update: It’s working, there’s already been some of those poker motherfucker spammers blocked (according to the logs).
… and I’m not kidding. It’s frikkin’ hot these days. Temperatures reaching 36 deg C (Around 96.8 F according to Google).
Be that as it may, I’ve been quite busy with stuff I can’t really (or rather won’t) talk about just yet. Things are looking up, let’s just put it that way.
So we’re trying out this “game” at the office. We are not allowed to dis(respect) anyone in our office. Anyone outside of our circle is fair game, otherwise we are to pay a fine of 2 bucks (ZAR).
Difficult. So far, I’m the only one of the loudmouths who hasn’t had to pay up yet. My turn is coming, I can feel it. There’s a slipup just waiting to happen…
Another thing I posted to the forum:
I would like to know since when is the word ‘’sh*t” an acceptable thing to hear on the so-called ”family” sound track?
I watch movies on DSTV with the family sound track enabled, not because I find swearing offensive, it doesn’t bug me at all, but because I don’t want my 2 year old and 4 year old to learn offensive words until they’re at least 6. So much for that idea.
Obviously the people who edit the soundtracks for ”family” viewing don’t have kids of their own, otherwise I’m quite sure that the soundtracks would be far cleaner than they are now.
EDIT: I find it really amusing that the forum censored my post with the disputed word. Perhaps the soundtrack editors should take note?
I posted the following on our local DSTV (Digital Satellite provider) forum:
I find that the reason for replacing ‘Bruce Almighty’ on Sunday night was ridiculous. ‘Possible tsunami references’? Eh? Come on, give me a break.
If multichoice is going to use stupid reasons like that for not showing a movie, they might as well shutdown the entire service and refund our money.
For goodness sakes, a person could find something offensive about ANYTHING that is shown on MNet or DSTV. Don’t be so damned ridiculous!
