Drastic Development

by TG on Dec.29, 2004, under Ideas

I’ve been busy mucking around with my laptop while I’ve been on vacation. I’ve set up a development environment for Mambo, because I want to use it as the front/backend to a project I’ve had in mind over the last year. I’ve finally pulled my finger out my ass and gotten around to visualising the database I require for the project. I still need to design the application, and I’m procrastinating a bit about that. I know what I want to see, but I still need to get into the nitty gritty of how the application will work. It’s probably gonna take me quite awhile to get it going, as I’m doing everything on my own, and I’m busy reading documentation at the moment, because my programming skills SUCK. I’m going to use canned graphics for now (mambo themes) because I just don’t have the skills to come up with decent graphics, and I’m too cheap to pay for it right now. ;)

Man, reading that, I don’t know what the hell I have skills for. Oh well.

I’m also thinking about setting up a Wiki. Don’t ask me what for, I just feel like mucking around with one. I like the concept. Maybe it’s not such a good idea, as I’m such a slacker when it comes to updating this site.

Die, Fucking Spammers, Die

by TG on Nov.01, 2004, under Complaints, Ideas

It had to happen. I’ve started getting comment spam.

Not too much of a problem though. I’ve taken some measures to stop it. At the moment, it’s more of a ‘fuck them around’ kind of approach if they try post any more spam, but if it gets any worse, I will implement an image auth code kinda thing, which will mean an extra step for adding a comment, but it will stop spambots cold.

Hmm. I should start writing an RFC for a new protocol, let’s call it DFSD, where you can send a network packet to a spammer’s machine, where it will summarily explode, decimating anything within 100 feet.

Sounds like a good idea. Anyone want to support this?

(Btw, that idea is now © to Me… so if you develop the idea and come up with a working plan, you owe me some money…)

Heresy!

by TG on Sep.13, 2004, under Ideas

Please don’t label me a heretic for saying this, but has anyone ever thought what life would be like if Microsoft (ptooie) stopped fighting Linux and Open Source and brought out their own distro?

Imagine: Microsoft Linux

Now that’s an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one.

Open Source Hardware?

by TG on Mar.04, 2004, under Ideas

This article, and others like it, really lead me to believe that one day soon, there are going to be more and more garage startups where people are going to start building ‘Open Source‘ hardware.

I mean, think about it. With hardware manufacturers building more and more restrictive hardware, what are people going to do about it? I’m sure as shit not going to upgrade my mobo’s bios to one that supports DRM. Not because I don’t believe in it (which I don’t), but because I don’t want my hardware dictating what I can and can’t do with music (or any digitial multimedia content for that matter) that I own.
