Wiki Wonders

by TG on Jan.13, 2005, under General

You may have noticed a new link on the menu called Wiki. Yeah, I finally got around to installing a wiki. Not for any particular purpose, mind you, but because I was bored and just wanted one. You know how it usually goes, though. You get what you want, and you don’t know what to do with it. So, now what? No clue. Guess I’ll leave it there for the time being, until I muster up enough boredom to go fiddle with it some more.

I found a new author (thanks to that friend of mine), his name is Brian Haig. I started with his second book, Mortal Allies, and now I’m reading his first book, Secret Sanction. Blame the fucked up order I read books on my friend who passes them along in the wrong order. The jerk. I read Mortal Allies in one day. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book that I couldn’t put down. I finished it at 2am.

Hmm. While keeping the spammers away, it seems my mucking around with the comment system has totally stopped ALL comments. Oh well. Can’t please everyone.

I’ve been catching up on my reading while I’ve been off work. It’s been great to finish a book in a day or two instead of spending two weeks grabbing a few paragraphs while I’m on the bog. A friend of mine introduced me to John Connolly. I’ve read all his books, except for his latest, which is sitting on my night stand waiting for me to finish reading Bad Men — Admittedly, I’m taking my time with this one.

Stephen King has always been my hero; I just love the way he writes, but John Connolly has neatly kicked him off the number one spot on my top author’s list. John Connolly is my new hero.

I’ve read a couple of books the past few months that have been quite good. Have to thank my supplier for that, heh.

“Psst… Wanna read some books?” He looks around nervously, “try it, you’ll like it, I promise.” “Uh, I’m not really in to that stuff, but if you say I’ll like it, I suppose I’ll give it a try. It’s not like once is gonna get me addicted…”

After reading the Area 51 series (except for the 2 new ones), I started on The Killing Kind by John Connolly. My supplier insisted. He actually wanted me to read it before the Area 51’s, but I never do what I’m told.

All I can say is, “Wow!” What a fantastic read. I think it’s Connolly’s third book, at least in this series, and it’s brilliant. The story may not necessarily appeal to some, but the writing is brilliant. I highly recommend this one, or at least, picking up any of his books.

I’m as much of a sucker for a good story as anyone, but I can read utter trash, and still like the book, as long as it is written well. Take Dreamcatcher by Stephen King for example. The book is a whole lot of utter incoherent shite for the most part, but I’m a sucker for his writing style. Hell, I’ll prolly enjoy reading his freaking grocery list for goodness sake (Did I mention he’s my favorite author?).

After further breathless recommendations from a friend of mine, I picked up 3 Dean Koontz books in one shot:

  • Odd Thomas
  • The Face
  • The Taking

– I surprised myself by getting these. I never thought I would pick up another Dean Koontz book after reading One door away from heaven. You thought Stephen King could get incoherent? Damn, at least he does it with style. That book was such a dissapointment to me, that I decided to give further Dean Koontz novels a miss.

I read Odd Thomas in a week, which for me, is brilliant going these days, considering I only read at night in bed and when I’m relaxing on the bog. I was dubious about reading it, considering my bias about the previous one I read, but it didn’t take me long to realise that I can take Dean Koontz off my personal shit list. Odd Thomas is awesome.

I have since started on The Face — I’m only a third of the way in, but I’m hooked. I’m looking forward to starting the last one.

I’m behind, so what?

by TG on Oct.11, 2004, under General

Yes, you!

I finally finished The Truth last night. Not a bad story. A bit hurried towards the end if you ask me, but on the whole, I enjoyed the entire series. Some people won’t like the biblical references though. Shame.

Wonder what the next one will be like?

The lady of the lake

by TG on Oct.06, 2004, under General

I’m busy reading Area 51: Excalibur, and I came across a mistake somewhere approaching the end:

SPOILER ALERT! (If you haven’t read it yet, skip this post (and if you’re the type to read the last page of the book, I’m glaring at you right now. Yes, you.))

Long time…

by TG on Jun.27, 2004, under Personal

Wow, it’s been awhile since I last posted something.

SSDD, yanno?

I just read a comment posted by meg nearly a month(!) ago.

I haven’t yet read Digital Fortress, but it’s in the queue - I’m reading Hidden Empire at the moment, it’s very intriguing. I bought the Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and one other by Dan Brown (Can’t remember the title right now) at the same time. The one I can’t remember was about a meteor that is found in the Arctic circle, and the controversy surrounding it. Good story. So yeah, I’ve read em ;-)

So let’s see, what’s happening with me? Not much, to be quite honest. The kids are getting bigger, I’m pretty damn busy at work, but other than that, it’s SSDD (You in der ‘ister g’ey?).

I do have other stuff going on, but I don’t feel like divulging any info about it right now. ;-)

I’m addicted to the Dixie Chicks album I was given recently. Who knew I’d ever like (ptooie) country music?! And as a total contrast, I’m also addicted to Metallica’s Kill Em All. Eclectic tastes, I have, yes, hmmm?

Ahh well, fuckit. I need to get to bed.
