Distinct lack of spam

I’m quite disappointed. I don’t know if it’s Spam Karma or Bad Behaviour that’s keeping all the spammers away.
There doesn’t appear to have been any spam attempts in over a week.
I was getting a cheap thrill out of updating the Spam Karma blacklists.

Upgrade Parade

I friggin’ *hate* upgrading the blog. Damn be-hatch takes awhile. Considering I have to ‘diff -br’ the live site with the new files to see what I need to replace. It’s not a straight forward process, unfortunately, since I have all sorts of anti-spam crap hooked into some of the files — Which seems to be pretty effective, by the way.

I’ve installed the new Spam Karma 2 beta for spam handling – It seems to be quite different to the old version. — Hopefully it works as well.

But… as usual, there are problems. Seems the server is missing curl, which is needed by SK2 for some mumbo jumbo… and it’s been a bitch installing it. It never rains. It pours.

Typically, there is no php-curl package in th main OS install repository. Weird how there’s source for it in the php-devel package, now isn’t it. At least some bright spark thought to add it to the contrib repo. Had the same problem with php-xml come to think of it. Another reason why I’ve tossed this friggin’ distro.

The combination of Spam Karma and Referrer Karma seem to be doing the trick. I have not had my blog spammed for a couple of days now, woohoo!

Mind you, that was just about the only traffic I received, so maybe I should disable the damn things. Huh.

Actually, I don’t know what I’m complaining about. I set up this blog, not for publicity – who needs it? Not me – but to satisfy my own needs. At least I can say I’m doing _something_. It can’t all be work work work, now can it?

Just installed [Referrer Karma][1]. Hopefully now my stats database won’t climb to over 12000 entries of utter crap.

_Update:_ It’s working, there’s already been some of those poker motherfucker spammers blocked (according to the logs).

This anti-spam plugin I’ve implemented seems to be doing the trick. It appears to be blocking 100% of these fucker’s attempts.

Well, I solved the comment spam problem awhile back, but it seems that the fuckers have found a new method… trackback.
Goddamnit. So I’ve implemented a new anti-spam thingy, aside from the “captcha” image on the comment post, which will hopefully help with the trackback spam.

What boggles my mind is that these spammers have fuck all else to do with themselves… all they can do is figure out how to piss off the world.

Jesus.

I wish that every spammer on the planet breaks out in festering boils that last throughout their lives.

Drastic Action

I’m still getting comment-spammed to death. You guys haven’t seen it because I’ve set moderation on the comments, so I get emailed and have to approve the comments before they are posted to the server. So I get comment-spammed via email

Anyway, I have added an auth code image for when you post a comment.

You are required to enter the code in the image before the server will accept your comment.

This should hopefully stop those fucking comment spambots from attacking my site.

I’m going to leave the comment moderation switched on for awhile, just to see if this is effective. If it proves to work, I’ll allow automatic posting of comments, so you will see them immediately, instead of having to wait for me to approve them.
