Referrer Spam
Nov 11th
I really don’t understand the penchant for spamming web logs with referrer spam. Do these spammers REALLY think that when browsing your web logs, you’re going to be inclined to look at a referrer coming from www-buy-cigarettes-now.ru?
Maybe one day when AI is a feasible and tangible thing, we can send them out to wipe out every spammer that they find. Suddenly we get a 98% speed increase when accessing the net because of all the spammers being down. Ahhh, joy.
Say hello to Skynet.
Fucking Spammers Die Die Die
Feb 1st
Well, I solved the comment spam problem awhile back, but it seems that the fuckers have found a new method… trackback. Goddamnit. So I’ve implemented a new anti-spam thingy, aside from the “captcha” image on the comment post, which will hopefully help with the trackback spam.
What boggles my mind is that these spammers have fuck all else to do with themselves… all they can do is figure out how to piss off the world.
Jesus.
I wish that every spammer on the planet breaks out in festering boils that last throughout their lives.
Comment Collapse

Hmm. While keeping the spammers away, it seems my mucking around with the comment system has totally stopped ALL comments. Oh well. Can’t please everyone.
I’ve been catching up on my reading while I’ve been off work. It’s been great to finish a book in a day or two instead of spending two weeks grabbing a few paragraphs while I’m on the bog. A friend of mine introduced me to John Connolly. I’ve read all his books, except for his latest, which is sitting on my night stand waiting for me to finish reading Bad Men — Admittedly, I’m taking my time with this one.
Stephen King has always been my hero; I just love the way he writes, but John Connolly has neatly kicked him off the number one spot on my top author’s list. John Connolly is my new hero.

I’m still getting comment-spammed to death. You guys haven’t seen it because I’ve set moderation on the comments, so I get emailed and have to approve the comments before they are posted to the server. So I get comment-spammed via email
Anyway, I have added an auth code image for when you post a comment.
You are required to enter the code in the image before the server will accept your comment.
This should hopefully stop those fucking comment spambots from attacking my site.
I’m going to leave the comment moderation switched on for awhile, just to see if this is effective. If it proves to work, I’ll allow automatic posting of comments, so you will see them immediately, instead of having to wait for me to approve them.
Die, Fucking Spammers, Die
Nov 1st
It had to happen. I’ve started getting comment spam.
Not too much of a problem though. I’ve taken some measures to stop it. At the moment, it’s more of a ‘fuck them around’ kind of approach if they try post any more spam, but if it gets any worse, I will implement an image auth code kinda thing, which will mean an extra step for adding a comment, but it will stop spambots cold.
Hmm. I should start writing an RFC for a new protocol, let’s call it DFSD, where you can send a network packet to a spammer’s machine, where it will summarily explode, decimating anything within 100 feet.
Sounds like a good idea. Anyone want to support this?
(Btw, that idea is now © to Me… so if you develop the idea and come up with a working plan, you owe me some money…)
