TSClient 6.0.6000 se moer

Got this new tsclient as a windows update. What a piece of shit. “More secure” seriously, who gives a rats ass? Now, instead of typing a server name and clicking connect and being presented with that machine’s login screen, I’m now presented with a little popup where I have to enter connection credentials so stupid tsclient can try automaitcally log you in to the machine Nice idea, however if you’re not using the Microsoft client on the machine (like the Netware client, for example) it seriously fucks you around. Now instead of having a relatively simple login, you now have to clear the “domain not found” error message, unset the “workstation only” check box, switch to the windows login tab, change that to your own user id, change the domain from local machine back to the domain, and finally log in. What a crock of shit. Thanks for fucking up yet another thing, Microsoft!

More Madness

I’ve been having lots of fun sorting out odd issues with McAfee Virusscan on one of our servers. It seems that McAfee locked an ini file for writing for some bizarre reason. It wasn’t even in the windows directory. Shutting down the services fixed it.

Virusscan 8.5 introduced a new feature to the Access Protection Policy: a switch to prevent the McAfee services from being stopped. “Brilliant!” I thought, because we’ve got some users who think they’re smart and constantly shut down the services – which is against company policy, I might add – so I thought it would bamboozle them. It turns out that it was me that got bamboozled instead. Having that option set prevents one from making remote console connections with Virusscan console. Thanks, McAfee, you bunch of retards!

Ignorance & Stupidity

The first is temporary, and the second is forever.

I am constantly amazed at the proof I receive every day of people’s stupidity. Without going off at too much of a geek tangent; we have a mail content filtering system here at work, where we block undesirable emails from entering and exiting our systems. When an incoming email is blocked, a notice is sent to the recipient, similar to this:

>An incoming email has been automatically blocked because it contains attachments that are disallowed. > >From: xxx@yyyy.com >Subject: Whatever the mail is about >

>If you believe this email to be work related and wish to receive it, please REPLY to this email, and make sure that you include the >original Mailsweeper message text. We will not be able to find your mail to release it unless you include this text. > >Do not provide clarification or instructions within your reply. > >If not attended to, your blocked email will be automatically deleted by the system in 7 days time.

The notice email has a subject of “Blocked Incoming Mail (type)”

It’s quite distinctive, so you can’t possibly confuse these with undeliverable error messages right?

Wrong.

It boggles the mind how many people in the company reply to the undeliverable error messages and request the emails to be released. All of them are female, come to think of it, but I’m not trying to imply anything here. :p

On another subject entirely: Time flies.

It feels like only yesterday that I was holding my little squalling baby boy in my arms. He started school last Wednesday. Unbelievable.

Stupid Service

I received another statement from Afrox Medispeed for my CPAP machine – this one marked as ‘overdue’. So I phoned the rep this morning to find out why they had not yet submitted the claim to my medical aid, and she basically told me that she had no idea as she has nothing to do with that side of things, and I should phone X.

So, I phone X, and ask her why they haven’t submitted the claim to my medical aid. She says to me, “but you’re a private patient!” Uhh… lady… why would I be asking about my medical aid if I was a private patient?

Anyway, it seems that some twat data capturer had loaded me onto their systems as a private patient, despite the fact that I had provided the rep with all my information. Or maybe it’s the rep that is the twat. Who knows?

  • I hope people are getting my subtext here, ie maybe it’s not a good idea to deal with Afrox Medispeed.

Bizarre Beginning (to the week)

I’m driving to work this morning, it was very dark, so naturally, I was driving with lights on. I end up behind some prat driving a Citroen (I think – it was dark), who had switched on his rear fog lights. These morons don’t realise that rear fog lights are VERY bright, and in some cases are blinding. I was annoyed, but not particularly surprised, so I was hanging back about 3 car lengths behind him. After a couple of minutes, the guys moves out my lane, so I pass him. He immediately pulls in behind me and flashes his brights. Wtf?

Now I wasn’t driving with my brights on, the angle on my lights was at neutral (well, considering I can only dip them lower), my lights are focused, and I wasn’t tail gating him, so I couldn’t figure out what the heck his problem was. So while he had his brights on, behind me, I flipped my own rear fog lights on and off a couple of times. He then slowed down and backed off.

I continued on my way, wondering what that guy was up to. I eventually decided that maybe he thought my brights were on, so I was going to teach him the error of his ways by pulling in behind him and showing him the difference between the normal lamps and the brights. I moved to the middle lane, and slowed down, hoping he would catch up to me. No such luck unfortunately. He must have dropped to WELL below the speed limit, because he didn’t catch up to me before I had to change highways. sigh

And then I arrive at work. Park in the basement in my usual spot, hop in to the elevator, and arrive at my floor. The elevator doors open, and there’s a great big hulking flower pot with a small tree in it sitting slap bang in the door way, with caution tape attached to either side of the doorway, going around the plant. Again, wtf?

I detached one side of the tape and exited the elevator, all the while looking around cautiously to see if I could figure out why that plant had been deposited right there. No such luck either. shrug

CD Chips

Golden Sound Intelligent Chip CD/DVD/SACD Upgrade

Something tells me that ^some^ Audiophiles are:

  • Really really really really really gullible
  • Really really really really really stupid
  • Really really really really really both of the above

Ah lacquer! Another one!

Digital Mains Filter: Reference Audio Mods

This is almost as awesomest as the last one! And it must be good — It’s got C37 lacquer up the wazoo!

I doubt it makes as much difference as the knobs though, since this one only costs $375. Cheaper = worser.
